The Bunnell Scoliometer is a precision mechanical inclinometer designed for use in orthopaedics to measure trunk asymmetries. With a central recess for the spinous processes, it can be positioned flat on the patient’s back to ensure accurate and consistent readings during assessment. Originally developed by Dr. Bunnell, the instrument is intended for the early detection of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) and for scoliosis screenings performed by trained personnel. An instruction manual is included in German, English, French and Italian. For specialist physicians, orthopaedic technicians and therapists, the scoliometer is a reliable tool for clinical spine examinations, enabling diagnosis, monitoring of AIS progression, and evaluation of treatment outcomes. The Bunnell Scoliometer is also widely used for scoliosis screenings and for follow-up assessments to track changes in spinal curvature over time. With knees straight and arms hanging down (palms together), the patient bends forward The scoliometer is placed transversely across the spine at the point of maximum deformity
