The Maddox cross with LED illumination is a tool produced by Oculus to determine a person's squint angle, which frequently comes into use during orthoptics and pleoptics. Orthoptics is a special branch of ophthalmology that consists of prevention, recognition and treatment of strabismus. A Maddox cross is also often referred to as a Maddox tangent scale. The scales with the large digits are used for a testing distance of 5 metres and the small digits are used for a testing distance of 1 metre. The numbers indicate the angle degree.
