Description

CATGUT PLAIN with Needle is a resorbable suture made of purified collagen, derived from the serosa of bovine intestine from countries classified as BSE-free. The twisted multifilament has a monofilament-like appearance and combines high flexibility with good handling properties. Its uniform diameter and needle-sharpened thread facilitate smooth passage through tissue, helping to minimise tissue trauma during suturing. The suture combines high tensile strength with excellent knot security and good knot-sliding characteristics, supporting secure tissue adaptation and efficient handling. The suture is absorbed by phagocytosis and is completely resorbed after approximately 63 days. Approximately 50% of the tensile strength is retained during the first 7 days. In inflamed tissue or areas with a high enzyme concentration, absorption may occur more rapidly and should therefore be taken into account during application. CATGUT PLAIN with Needle is suitable for the adaptation of soft tissue and ligatures in general surgery, visceral surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, urology and ophthalmology.
