Description

SURGICEL® Original is a proven haemostatic agent with over 60 years of clinical use, providing reliable support in controlling oozing bleeding across a wide range of surgical procedures. It is easy to use and highly adaptable, as the material can be cut to size and tailored to the bleeding site, including use in endoscopic procedures. SURGICEL® Original consists of 100% oxidised regenerated cellulose. When applied to a bleeding surface, it promotes haemostasis by acting as a matrix for platelet aggregation. The effect is most effective when applied dry, making it a useful adjunct or alternative when conventional methods such as ligatures are not suitable or sufficient. In everyday clinical use, SURGICEL® Original is fully absorbable, typically within 7–14 days, and is associated with minimal tissue reaction. This supports efficient workflows, as no removal is required. In addition, SURGICEL® Original has demonstrated in vitro bactericidal activity against a range of clinically relevant pathogens (including MRSA, VRE, and E. coli), providing an added layer of safety in infection-prone situations. Suitable for capillary, venous, and minor arterial bleeding, SURGICEL® Original support
