Dressing forceps - also called swab forceps - serve primarily to grip and hold sterile swabs and other sterile surgical materials. Thanks to their long, thin shape, these forceps permit work even in body cavities with difficult access. In gynaecology, for example, the forceps are mostly used to remove tampons or IUDs. Besides being used as swab forceps, dressing forceps can also be easily used to remove foreign bodies, as the ribbed holding jaws provide a secure grip.
